ANALISA PROSES LAJU KOROSI DAN DAMPAK YANG DIHASILKAN PADA EVAPORATOR SISTEM DESALINASI AIR LAUT KEADAAN VAKUM
Abstract
Corrosion is a natural process that will cause material to lose its mechanical strength, this will cause a deformation of the material structure which eventually result to a failure, This research will analyze the usage of Stainless Steel Type-304 alloy as main material for an evaporator in a vacuum sea water desalination system where its goals is to analyze how fast the corrosion process will began, the value of its corrosion rate, and the deformation of evaporator surface structure. The experiment was conducted in two method, the first method is done by experimenting the evaporator in real-time work condition and the second method is done through a simulation, using an input parameter that resembles the real-time condition. Both process have an objective to measure the evaporator corrosion rate with structure deformation shown in simulation process. The research yield a result of 10.12 mm/year (398.03 mils/year). While from simulation method the corrosion rate yield a result of 9.363 mm/year (379.37 mm/year) with a validation result shown a differences of 4.7% against experimental method The deformation of the structure is shaped as a pit located at the evaporator surface. The result of the research concludes that Stainless Steel Type-304 alloy can’t be used as an evaporator main material in a vacuum sea water desalination system.
